Am very happy with the goings-on at the potager...
We have a lot of spinach this season...
and they are flourishing... we harvest and eat them whole, roots included...Planted this sole celery in April...
with the cold coming in, it is growing really well...
Tried to germinate fava beans from seeds...
From eight seeds, six germinated successfully...
Our lettuce self-seeded...
We have about a dozen of them, thriving...
They are a constant part of our breakfast fare...
Bought three broccoli seedlings from the store...
All are doing well...
The round and long type...
They taste really good either fresh or cooked...
We love our carrots a lot...
Sowed the seeds in two plots...
Harvested the first carrot this morning for breakfast...
Wooh, heavenly...
Strawberries... just about everybody's favorite...
Seedlings were all sourced from the mother plants...
Looking forward to the fruits next spring...
Am growing this green just for my suweeto haato...
The ta-sai is one of her favorite leafy greens... have been harvesting them for a while now... we mostly stir-fried them with black beans...
Bought two seedlings of parsley...
Had them planted as companions to the strawberry patch... we harvest them a little at time to use as garnish for our breakfast pizza-toasts...
And finally, while still far away from harvesting, red onions, another 'must-have' order from my missus...
Sowed the seeds last October and they are still rather tiny...
Need to let the seedlings grow up to the size of chopsticks before I can transplant them for good...

ReplyDeleteMary Hysong... growing winter veggies has is fair share of fun... the plants don't suffer from the heat as do summer crops... my missus and I like to chew on greens in the mornings...
Norma Chang... thank my lucky stars for being able to grow these veggies... my missus stir fry the ta-sai with preserved, salty, black soy beans...
Autumn Belle... for the moment, I am happily gnawing on fresh carrots every day... crunchy, sweet, and ooh so tasty...

Beautiful pictures, everything is so very green and full of life. My grandson wants to know what type of fish you are holding in that picture of yours? I might have asked you this before but can't remember what you said it was.
ReplyDeleteTanya... hmmm, it belongs to the mustard family as opposed to the goose-foot family chard and spinach... ta-sai does not have the oxalic acid like the spinach and chard, hence it is less sappy and more agreeable in taste for us... thanks again for the Liebster Award...
ReplyDeleteMr. H... that fish is called sea bream... I caught it from the Japan Inland Sea some years ago on a fishing trip with my wife... it was actually quite tiny but it tasted good...
Your garden looks like paradise, what a wonderful array of edibles! It's great to find out how some of the things we're growing are prepared in their native country.
